June

June is here and we couldn’t be more excited! Something about the start of summer gets us feeling inspired.

Beauty Total would like to welcome Anne to our wellness team.

“With so many types of alternative health resources around us, trying something new can be a little intimidating and even scary at times.  If you are new to alternative health practices, my hope is that you will open yourself to experience new ways of promoting your health naturally, and to find the right fit for you.  If you are someone who has already explored a variety of wholistic treatments, I invite you to read through the offerings at Beauty Total to decide if my philosophy of healing resonates with you and your wellness planning.”

Anne has comprehensive bodywork training in Myomassology, Thai Massage, Thai Stem (hot herbal compress) Massage, Lymphatic Drainage Massage, Raindrop Therapy, Acupressure, Traditional Chinese Fire Cupping, Ayurvedic Head Massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Reflexology, Hydrotherapy, Tuina and Aroma Massage.   She is also a Healthy Breast Educator and enjoys facilitating natural health and massage workshops to encourage people in their health and wellness journeys.

 Stop Ignoring Your Feet.

Sandal weather is finally here, don’t let the feet and toenails you ignored all winter long stop you from sporting a great pair of sandals. Yes, they’ve been bundled in thick socks and snow boots for months now. It's time for some foot TLC.

Skin Care Tip:

Do You Suffer from Puffy, Runny Eyes?

If you have allergies, you know it is not unusual for those allergies to affect your eyes.

Solution:

Pop your eye cream in your refrigerator and apply products cold for a fantastically cooling, soothing feeling.

Enliven tired eye contours with this bestselling 4-in-1 phyto-fighter that contributes to an energized and firmed appearance, as it works to combat puffiness, dark circles. Boosted by the toning properties of rosemary, this refined eye contour cream is an essential beauty partner for skin with visible signs of fatigue. Its minty-fresh aroma offers you a powerhouse beauty treatment that leaves you feeling fresh.
Relieves eye contour fatigue. Eye contours are smooth and visibly younger looking.

How to use:

In the morning and evening after makeup removal, apply a thin layer of Yonka Phyto Contour eye cream to the eyes & lips area. To give the rosemary fragrance time to dissipate and to prevent eyes from tearing, keep your eyes closed during application. For an immediate anti-fatigue effect or in the event of puffy (swollen) eyelids in the morning, apply a thick layer of cream, keeping your eyes closed for a few moments. Let sit 15 minutes, then massage in any excess.

Additional Tips:

Adding an extra pillow to elevate your head and drain excess fluid at nighttime is also helpful.

Keeping bedroom windows closed at night while you sleep.

Keep your bedroom temperature cool

Use an air filter that has a small-particle or HEPA filter. Try adjusting your air filter so that it directs clean air toward your head when you sleep.

Re-evaluate your skincare routine.

Summer skin is different than winter skin. You might have been using heavier creams all winter to fight dry skin. But you’ll want to consider something lighter come summer, as well as an SPF in anticipation of more hours spent outside.

You don’t have to be at the beach for the sun’s rays to do damage.
Start each day with an application of sunscreen.
Apply 30 minutes prior to sun/daylight exposure.

Summer, you wished for it and here it is! Well… almost. As the days get longer and the temperatures get warmer we can see it quickly approaching. Patios, cottages, and trips to the beach! Bikini season is about to be here but are you ready for it? Spring is a time for transition, a time for detoxification. Lighter meals, fresh vegetables, and more movement give our bodies a break from heavy digestion and time to work on detoxification. Combine healthy eating practices with stress management techniques and ample sleep and you’ll have yourself a body that runs like a Ferrari. Begin with hydration, 10-12 cups of pure water per day will keep your systems running smoothly. Practice intermittent fasting by only eating during a 12-hour window every day, this will give your body a daily break and enhance your metabolism in the long run. Finally, incorporate dark leafy vegetables and herbs to give your body the phytonutrients it needs to needs to be cleaner, leaner and meaner. Working with a Holistic Nutritionist, like myself, will help you explore the nitty-gritty of detoxification and weight management. It’s never too late to work towards a healthier you!

 Recipe:

Pesto is a summer favorite of mine. A regular paired with zucchini noodles, chickpea pasta and even on omelettes. Try this avocado and spinach pesto to take it up a notch:

  • 1 cup diced avocados

  • 1 cup packed baby spinach

  • 1 cup packed fresh basil

  • ¼ cup roasted, salted pistachios

  • ¼ cup parmesan

  • 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juiced

  • 2 cloves of garlic

  • ¼ tsp each of sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • ¼ cup olive oil

To the bowl of a food processor, add avocados, spinach, basil, pistachios, parmesan, lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper. Start blending and slowly stream the olive oil in and process until smooth, stopping to scrape down sides of bowl if necessary.
